The Department of Electronic
Engineering is as old as the University
itself. During the course of more than
eight years it has gained both in strength
and reputation. The Department offers
courses at both Bachelors and Masters
level.
At the Bachelors level
five batches have already passed out in
the years 1998, 1999,2000, 2001 and the
year 2002. A qualified faculty having
strength of thirty-two members is available
for the students at Bachelors level.
The Masters Program offers
a Masters Degree in Electronic Engineering
with specialization in Telecommunication
Engineering. More than ten experienced
teachers comprise the faculty of Masters
program. Each one of these teachers is
a master in his own field with years of
experience behind him.
Besides these full time
programs the Department also offers short
courses in collaboration with the Industry.
The Programs offered
by the Department are recognized and accepted
all around the globe.
The Department has five
Laboratories, each one specializing in
one of the fields of Electronics. Laboratory
work is designed so as to introduce the
students to new equipment in their respective
fields. Close simulation to the field
is provided to the students in these labs.
Resume’ of these Labs is given below:
| Electronics
Lab |
The
Electronics Lab is a general lab
that is used for lab work of all
basic courses related to Electronics.
This is where a fresh student in
the Electronic Department starts.
One is introduced to the very basics
of electronics here. The students
have their hands on state of the
art equipment. They start early
with multi-meters. Analogs as well
as digital multi-meters are available
here. Students get to use Function
Generators and Oscilloscopes. Students
perform their Lab work on Lab trainers.
Analogs as well as Digital Power
Supplies are available to power
up the projects. Besides this basic
equipment some highly sophisticated
devices are also available for the
convenience of students. A Universal
IC tester and an LCR (Inductance,
Capacitance & Resistance) meter
are a couple of examples.
|
| Digital
Electronics & Microprocessor Lab |
The Digital Electronics &
Microprocessor Lab, as the name
suggests, is designed specifically
to concentrate on the field of
Digital Electronics and Microprocessor
Interfacing. This is a step further
towards specialization in a field.
Besides basic equipment such as
Digital Multi-meters, Function
Generators and Oscilloscope, a
digital IC Tester is also available.
|
| Embedded
Systems & Software Development
Lab |
|
The Embedded Systems & Software
Development Lab, as the name suggested,
is developed to facilitate the students
in the field of Man Machine Interface.
We have equipment essential for
training in the field of Microprocessor
and Interfacing. Twenty Digital
Trainers of two different makes,
Eleven Microprocessor and Microcontroller
Trainers, besides Fifteen IBM Computers
serve this purpose. Digital Drives
for Stepper Motors as well as Servo
Motors are also available here.
|
| Opto-Electronics
& Communication Lab |
Keeping
in mind the versatility of the field
of communication and the introduction
of optical systems in this field
the Department has designed a lab
specifically to introduce students
to this field. Students here have
their hands on special trainers
to get familiar with both Radio
Frequency and Optical Communication.
For this purpose this Lab has thirteen
trainer cards, which closely simulate
original communication cards being
used in the field. To work with
high frequencies associated to RF
communication special Oscilloscopes
with scanning rate of 100 MHz are
available. Audio Frequency Generators,
Frequency Counters and RF milli-watt
meters are also available.
This Lab also serves
as Final Year Project Lab. Equipment
such as Universal IC Programmer,
EPROM Programmer and Microcontroller
Programmer besides five latest computers
help the cause. PCB designing and
manufacturing equipment is also
available in this lab.

| Industrial
Electronics & DSP Lab |
| In
Pakistan the demand for Industrial
Electronic Engineers is ever growing.
The Department of Electronic Engineering,
Sir Syed University of Engineering
and Technology had this in mind
and therefor they made a lab providing
students with a chance to get familiar
with Industrial and Power Equipment.
This laboratory
has four GE-FANUC micro programmable
logic controllers, three Logo! Modules
(Universal Logic Modules), SIMATIC
S5 PLC Trainers, SIMATIC S7 PLC
Trainers and ten high-speed computers.
Besides various module (trainers)
such as the following are also available:
Thyristor-Triac Control Trainer
(four pieces), Position Regulator
(four pieces) and Brightness Regulator
(four pieces).
|
| Machines
& Control Lab |
The
Machines & Control Lab is another
lab for introducing students to
the field of Electrical Engineering
and Control Systems which are very
important in Modern Industry. Students
are provided a chance to work on
Devices, Electrical Machines and
Drives such as:
Single Phase Transformers,
Squirrel Cage Three Phase Asynchronous
Motor, Star Delta Starter, Three
Phase Synchronous Machine, Starting
and Synchronous Module, Field Rheostat,
Starting Rheostat, DC Shunt Generator,
Eddy Current Brake, Torque Measuring
Unit, Load Cell, Electronic Tachometer,
Universal Base for E-machines, Optical
Transducer, Load Bank, Resistive
Load and Inductive Loads.
Equipment
related to Feed Back Systems is
also available:
Attenuator, DC
Servo Motor, Dc Servo Motor Drive,
Error and Ratio Proportional Controller,
Input Potentiometer, Output Potentiometer,
Demodulator, PID Controller, Synchronous
Receiver, Stepper Motor, Synchronous
Transmitter, Stepper Motor Drive,
Voltage to Frequency Controller
and Rotatory Encoder
This lab along
with the Industrial Lab thence gives
complete simulation of an automatic
Industry.
