Introduction

The Master of Science (MS) will be a thesis based programme that requires a minimum of eight courses of 24 credit hours, of which six courses will be core courses (18 credit hours) and two courses in the candidate's major field of interest (6 credit hours) plus a research project that is equivalent to six credit hours. In this manner, a candidate has to complete 30 credit hours. The programme will be of 2 years duration.

In the first and second semesters, one will study six courses, three in each semester. In the third semester a supervisor will be appointed by a departmental committee. A student is expected to produce a dissertation on a topic assigned by the supervisor and approved by the Board of Advanced Studies and Research. In the third semester he/she is to complete his/her course work by taking two courses and start writing the thesis which is to be completed by the end of the fourth semester. At the end of the fourth semester, he is required to defend publicly his/her dissertation in the presence of his/her supervisor, an external examiner, and the Chairman.

Fields of specialization to be offered are:
Analysis
Algebra
Topology
Measure Theory
Summability
Differential Equations
Operations Research
Numerical Analysis
Fluid Mechanics
