Following are the responsibilities are being fulfilled by the committee. a) Counseling and Guidance of students as continuos process. b) Career planning of students. c) Providing placement service. d) Building of moral character. The Heads of the above institutions are providing their full support in planning vigorously and advising the Bureau in this task. Members of the Faculties of Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology and Aligarh Institute of Technology who are also Counselors are actively participating in the above mentioned functions of the Bureau, in addition to normal teaching duties.

Policy Directives

The Vice Chancellor of Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology and the principal of Aligarh Institute of Technology have ensured the following directives:

The students are divided into small groups and each group is placed under the guidance of a particular teacher designated as Counselor. Each Counselor shall report to one of the Senior Counselors nominated by dean of Engineering. The Counselors will maintain files of inpidual students placed under their guidance. Every file will contain detailed information about
(a) the background of the students,
(b) the conduct and personality of the students,
(c) the personal observations of the Counselor regarding the interests pursued by the students in sports and socio cultural fields,
(d) the academic progress of the students and
(e) observations and relevant anecdotal record, if any, of the students, collected from the teachers responsible for the student in his/her various courses of studies and co-curricular activities/socio/cultural activities. All such Data is being fed in the computer of the Career Planning Secretariat.
The members of the faculties are assisting the Bureau in maintaining record about employers of the Ex-students and prospective employers of the upcoming graduates.
Industrial visits is a regular feature, and the students of all years are participating in such visits. A plan of Industrial visits will be intimated in advance to the Bureau and the reports written by the accompanying teachers/counselors will be placed with the Bureau after perusal of the Deans.
A copy of the list of potential employers is furnished by all the Senior Counselors to the Bureau who will contact their Personnel Departments with a view to get the graduates put on jobs. The Bureau of its own will compile a list of prospective employers.
The teachers are concentrating on building moral character of the students, by stressing the need if imbibing Aligarh Spirit. They will make the students feel that Career Planning is in their own interest for an independent and practical life, which they would enter on completion of academic work.
Books and literature on Aligarh Spirit, Visions of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan and his life history have been provided to the faculty members. They should go through it and transmit their knowledge to the students which should become a basis of discussion with students.
From the coming semester the timetables of the teachers are so adjusted that they may be able to perform counseling work in addition to the teaching of academic courses. The Senior Counselors and Director/Asst. Director Career Planning are devoting at least half an hour per week to assist the Secretariat of Career Planning.
The Bureau, on advice of the Senior Counselors and other members of the faculty, are arranging visits of heads of employing organizations and prospective employers and their concerned executives to the University and the Institute to enhance awareness about actual academic environment and the Lab. facilities available.
In cooperation with the Faculty Members, the Bureau is arranging internship during semester break. Efforts are being made so that the process of placement as interns may reach a level of pre-selection of the students who are about to complete their studies. The Senior Counselors in cooperation with the Bureau is arranging periodic get-together sessions of such students with current and prospective employers.
The Chairmen of the department of Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology and the principal Aligarh Institute of Technology is holding periodic meetings with the Counselors and Senior Counselors to guide and coordinate the total task of Counseling and placement.
The Vice Chancellor and Principal are totally involved with the progress, achievements and objectives of Career Planning and Placement tasks. In order to stream line and coordinate the activities of Counselors, a permanent Secretariat of Career Planning & Placement Bureau has already been established and suitable office accommodation and equipment have been provided to it.
