Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology, sponsored by Aligarh Muslim University of Old Boys' Association of Pakistan, was established on 18th October 1993 through a charter granted by the Governor of Sindh vide Ordinance No. XII of 1993 published in the Sindh Government Gazette on 6th October 1993. By the Grace of Allah (Almighty) the Sindh Assembly in its session held on 17th September 1995 unanimously passed the 'Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology Act 1995 to give a legal coverage to the University. This University has representation in Pakistan Engineering Consul University Grant Commission as a member University. Further this University is a full member of Association of Common-Wealth Universities and its degree is recognized worldwide.

Under the umbrella of Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology Continuing Education Programme (CEP) was established in 1997. The Continuing Education Programme (CEP) is playing vital role in disseminating latest knowledge on Engineering and Information Technology application including modern programming languages, Project Management, Computerized Accounting and Financial Management, Computer Networking Systems and Graphics & Design courses required in the market. These programmes will be highly beneficial to those who cannot afford to attend educational institutions during their regular timings. These courses are arranged in evening and on Sundays. The latest knowledge acquired by the participants of CEP helps in seeking, befitting jobs in the open market.
