Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology, sponsored by Aligarh Muslim University of Old Boys' Association of Pakistan, was established on 18th October 1993 through a charter granted by the Governor of Sindh vide Ordinance No. XII of 1993 published in the Sindh Government Gazette on 6th October 1993. By the Grace of Allah (Almighty) the Sindh Assembly in its session held on 17th September 1995 unanimously passed the 'Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology Act 1995 to give a legal coverage to the University. This University has representation in Pakistan Engineering Consul University Grant Commission as a member University. Further this University is a full member of Association of Common-Wealth Universities and its degree is recognized worldwide.

Under the umbrella of Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology Continuing Education Programme (CEP) was established in 1997. CEP not only facilitate the students to update their knowledge but also equipped them to match the future educational need and provide in them awareness of their potential contribution to the society. Under CEP more than 400 students have been qualified for Microsoft Systems Engineering certification & more than 100 students have been qualified for Microsoft System Engineering + Internet. Certification for 233 participant of Java,50 Participants for .NET programming and 50 participant for CISCO have since been achieved. Total 8500 person have since been participated in the short Courses since launched by CEP.
