Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology is a reflection of philosophy of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, who impressed the need for acquisition of modern education in order to live with peace and dignity among the comity of nations. Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys’ Association (AMUOBA) was inspired by the towering personality of a great educationist and social reformer Sir Syed Ahmed Khan and in recognition of his services particularly for the Muslims of the Indian Sub-continent, established Sir Syed University and named it after Sir Syed Ahmed Khan. AMUOBA thought that the establishment of Sir Syed University will truly transform Sir Syed Ahmed Khan’s philosophy for education into a reality.
The University started functioning in the year 1994 with only 2 technologies namely Electronic Engineering and Computer Engineering. Over a period of time, the University expanded, and a number of departments were added in response to the emerging market demands. The University has now 15 disciplines namely Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Bioinformatics, Information Technology, Mobile Communication & Security, Mathematics, Biomedical Sciences and Business Management. There are plans to add more disciplines gradually in response to the market appetite.
The University’s infrastructure is continuously being expanded. Central library and laboratories are upgraded with the latest state of the art equipment. For future expansion, the University has acquired 200 acres of land in the Education City to establish its main Campus.

Engineering programs are recognized by the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), Chartered Inspection and Evaluation Committee (CIEC) and Pakistan Council of Architects and Town Planners (PCATP) and have been given due recognition.
