BS in Biotechnology
Quick Links
Biotechnology is the use of living organisms to create new products and processes. This field is an application of scientific and engineering principles to process materials using biological agents to deliver goods and services. It is an applied science and has great scope in medical, agricultural, food and pharmaceutical sciences. Our BS Biotechnology curriculum has been designed to produce graduates with updated and practical knowledge of this multidisciplinary and emerging field.
Biotechnology is the technology-based science that uses living systems to make beneficial products to improve the live and health of human beings. It is basically the science for human welfare. It also uses genetic engineering techniques to improve the characters of living organism. Biotechnology can be viewed as a group of useful, enabling technologies with wide and diverse applications. It has large, highly profitable, modern industrial outlets of great value to society e.g., DNA recombinant technology, most revolutionary branch of the modern science and have a profound impact on medicine, contributing to the diagnostics and cure of hereditary defects and serious disease and the development of new biopharmaceutical drugs and vaccines for human and animal use. It also deals with the modification of microorganisms, plants and farm animals for improved and tailored food production and to increased opportunities for environmental remediation and protection.
By virtue of new technologies dealing with plant and animal breeding are much faster and have lower costs. Genetically modified crops are growing exponentially. The field is further exemplified with the industrial production of enzymes like proteases, amylases, celluloses and lipases, industrial manufacturing plants for milk and milk products, alcohols, organic acids, antibiotics, vitamins, growth promoting factors and monoclonal antibodies.
PROGRAM SCOPE:
The Biotechnology describes biological processes that have been engineered, that makes use of biological systems, living organisms and its components to create products and other technological systems with the aim of advancing the human condition. This advancement may come in the form of increased food production, medicinal breakthroughs or health improvement as result of new knowledge and products. The biotechnology program believes to produce practical environment in connection with theoretical background knowledge for the highest class education and research. The Curriculum comprises 47 courses (core and elective courses). This four-year program provides knowledge about different modules like therapeutic, diagnostic, genetic engineering, tissue engineering stem cell technology, molecular biology scientific investigations for forensic studies, production of vaccines, antibiotics and various drugs.
