Biomedical Science/Engineering and Technology is one of the emerging fields which combines Engineering and scientific expertise with the needs in the medical industry for the growth and development of the healthcare sector.
The Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology, SSUET, was the pioneer to took initiative and lay the foundation of this emerging field in Pakistan in 1996, and luckily, I was a student in the same department under the supervision of the most knowledgeable and skilled faculty.
The field of Biomedical Science and Engineering has gotten attention due to the high demand for health care experts, scientists, technical staff, and engineers due to pandemic COVID-19. Biomedical scientists are responsible for the diagnosis and research of diseases that may change the course of human life (like COVID-19). On the other hand, Biomedical Engineers are the experts that develop devices like Ventilators, respirators, Vital Sign Monitors, and SpO2 monitors to help Doctors in their diagnoses. Currently, the Biomedical Engineering department offers the following programs,

4 – BS in Food Science and Technology
5 – MS in Biomedical Engineering
6 – Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering
