Sir Syed University organized Cancer Awareness Program
Wife of Governor Sindh, Reema Ismail was the chief guest
KARACHI, October 22, 2020 – ORIC Department of Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology (SSUET) organized a workshop on Cancer Awareness Program by BCA Project Team at the campus where the experience of a breast cancer survivor was shared. Wife of the Governor Sindh, Mrs. Reema Ismail was the chief guest. The event was attended by a large number of women including Mrs. Shahsta Khatoon (wife of Chancellor SSUET), Mrs. Munira Vali Uddin (wife of Vice Chancellor SSUET), Mrs. Husna Sarfraz (wife of Registrar SSUET), Dr. Rabia Noor Enam, Director ORIC, Zarmina Bakhtiar, Misbah Khalid and others.
Addressing the workshop, Mrs. Reema Ismail said that the main reason behind the spread of cancer in Pakistan is lack of awareness that causes delay in detection of breast cancer and most of women approach hospitals at the last stage of cancer. Holding of such events may create awareness among women to respond appropriately for prevention and protection from breast cancer.
Appreciating the determination of the SSUET team, she said, “It is a well-organized and well attended program and we are especially impressed with your efforts to help the differently abled people. First lady Samina Alvi’s task force will be honored to work with you to make a better Pakistan. Our mission is to prevent and cure breast cancer by creating widespread awareness through community engagement on prevention, early detection and increased access to treatment.”
Zarmina Bakhtiar was of view that women should not be silent with fear of shame and social stigma. They must approach the health care professional for early detection of the disease. However, Sir Syed University had done an amazing job to create awareness among women about breast cancer. I was extremely impressed and looked forward to seeing the projects being done by your students.
In Pakistan, around 40,000 women die of Breast Cancer every year. Pakistan has the highest rate of breast cancer in Asia. An estimate of 1 in 10 women may develop breast cancer and around 10 million women are at risk of breast cancer in Pakistan.

کراچی، ۲۲/اکتوبر ۰۲۰۲ء۔۔ سرسید یونیورسٹی آف انجینئرنگ اینڈ ٹیکنالوجی کے شعبہ اورک کے زیرِ اہتمام گورنر ہاؤس کے اشتراک سے چھاتی کے کینسر سے آگاہی کے ایک پروگرام کا انعقاد کیا گیا جس کی مہمان ِ خصوصی گورنر سندھ عمران اسماعیل کی اہلیہ ریما اسماعیل تھیں۔پروگرام میں شرکت کرنے والوں میں سرسید یونیورسٹی کے چانسلر کی اہلیہ محترمہ شائستہ خاتون، وائس چانسلر کی اہلیہ محترمہ مینرہ ولی الدین، رجسٹرار کی اہلیہ محترمہ حسنہ سرفراز، اورک کی ڈائریکٹر رابعہ نور انعام، محترمہ زرمینہ بختیار،محترمہ مصباح خالد سمیت خواتین کی کثیر تعداد شامل تھے۔
اس موقع پر گورنر سندھ محترم عمران اسماعیل کی اہلیہ محترمہ ریما اسماعیل نے کہا کہ پاکستان میں اس مرض کے پھیلاؤ کی بنیادی وجہ آگاہی کا فقدان ہے جو چھاتی کے کینسر کا پتہ لگانے میں تاخیرکا سبب بنتا ہے اور بیشتر خواتین مرض کے آخری مرحلے پر ڈاکٹروں سے رجوع کرتی ہیں۔اس طرح کے پروگراموں کے انعقاد سے ان میں بیداری پیداہوگی اور وہ بیماری سے بچاؤ اور حفاظت کے لیے بروقت قدم اٹھاسکیں گی۔
پروگرام کے انعقاد پر انھوں نے سرسیدیونیورسٹی کی تعریف کرتے ہوئے کہاکہ وہ مختلف قسم کے افراد پر ایک منظم اور عمدہ پروگرام منعقد کرنے پر جامعہ کی کاوشوں سے بہت زیادہ متاثر ہیں۔خاتونِ اول کی ٹاسک فورس کے لیے یہ ایک اعزاز کی بات ہو گی کہ وہ سرسید یونیورسٹی کے ساتھ مل کر پاکستان کی ترقی و بہتری کے لیے کام کرے۔ہمارا عزم ہے کہ چھاتی کے کینسر کی روک تھام اور علاج کے لیے وسیع پیمانے پر آگاہی کی تحریکوں کو فروغ دیں اور ایسے مریضوں کی علاج تک رسائی میں سہولتیں فراہم کریں تاکہ مرض کا پیشگی بروقت پتہ لگایا جا سکے اور اسے مطلوبہ طبی امداد مل سکے۔
ذرمینہ بختیار کا کہنا تھا کہ خواتین کو شرم اور سماجی خوف سے خاموش نہیں رہنا چاہئے بلکہ اپنے مرض کے علاج کے لیے ڈاکٹر سے فوراََ رجوع کرنا چاہئے کیونکہ ابتدائی مرحلے پر اس کا علاج ممکن ہے۔سرسید یونیورسٹی نے خواتین میں کینسر کی آگاہی پھیلانے کے لیے اس پروگرام کا انعقاد کرکے ایک مستحسن قدم اٹھایا ہے۔میں آپ لوگوں کی کارکردگی سے بہت متاثر ہوں اور یہاں کے طلباء کے تیارکردہ پروجیکٹس دیکھنے کی متمنی ہوں۔
پاکستان میں چھاتی کے کینسرکے مریضوں کی تعداد چالیس ہزار سے تجاوز کرچکی ہے۔ایشیاء میں پاکستان میں چھاتی کے کینسرکے مریض سب سے زیادہ ہے۔تقریباََ دس ملین خواتین کینسرکے خطرے کی زد پر ہیں۔ایک اندازے کے مطابق پاکستان میں دس میں سے ایک خاتون اس مرض کا شکار ہوتی ہے۔
