Architecture: Become the Architect of the New Future For those with passion for exploring and discovering new ideas for change making, Architectural professional degree (Bachelor of Architecture) is a dream come true. Architects are very different from other professional fields as Architectural course blends studies in Science, Arts and Entrepreneurship to help young people create new ideas for the future. Architects find employment and private practice in Construction Industry, Development Sector and the Creative Fields like art, media and design. Young people with a dream for becoming an Engineer, Artist or Social Scientist will spend a comfortable 5 years at Architecture and Environmental Design (AED) department of SSUET. AEDD course is field based, analytical and sensitive to environmental and cultural issues, especially Climate Change and Energy Efficiency. Program Overview

An architect plans, designs creates and gives shape and form to a building or any other structure. Architects are required in government, autonomous or semi autonomous organizations. Architects are also in demand by consulting firms, builders and private developers. Some Architects are self employed and practice Architecture profession.

Architects carry out design work in accordance with the owner’s requirement keeping in view local building bylaws and conditions of Pakistan Council of Architects and Planners (PCATP).

Architecture and Environmental Design (AED) Department envisions that AED alumni (graduates and staffs) by employing their creative and critical thinking and entrepreneurial skills will build Pakistan as a Knowledge Based Society.

Mission: Institutionalize Responsive Development Approach

AED department’s Educational, Research and Outreach programs promote good local practices, and build partnerships with Civil Society and Governmental bodies as key to institutionalizing the Responsive Development Approach, which is to:

Respect and promote local practices, environment, and culture
Resolve problems of built environment and overcome development challenges using an interplay of ethics, creativity, technology and entrepreneurship
Demonstrate competency in designing, construction, communication and management of professional practice and programsBachelor of Architecture Program Educational Objectives

Upon completion of the 5 year undergraduate program in Architecture (B. Arch), the graduate will have the following competencies

Become knowledgeable of the broader role of Architects and to ethically adapt practice to the emerging needs of the Construction, Creative and Development Sectors
Application of critical and creative thinking to Architectural and Environmental design
Have understanding of design considerations including historical, cultural, functional and environmental requirements in the context of changing market demands, advancing technology and Climate Change
Have knowledge of and ability to make drawings including digital drawings, and written and verbal skills to communicate ideas and make presentations
Capacity to research, analyze and create entrepreneurial solutions
Knowledge of building materials, technology and services and project management and be able to employ and coordinate the same
Understanding of legal, organizational and institutional framework of professional practice and be able to manage, undertake and advocate good practices


